Netbiz Group and Newcastle College Partnership
We're getting more involved in the community and are thrilled to be working alongside Newcastle College.
Our Creative Collaboration Provides Students with the Opportunity to Work on Live Briefs and Experience Agency Life1st November 2018 -
Running throughout November, the partnership will provide students with an opportunity to gain valuable insights into a busy, digital agency, where they will experience working on a live brief, from concept to completion.
The brief is to create a new online jewellery brand and the students will be working on logo concepts, website designs and various forms of digital marketing collateral such as eNewsletter templates and assets for Social Media.
The project will cover more than just the creative aspects of agency life, however. Collectively, the students will be taking part in the initial design consultations with the client and managing other aspects of the project to ensure deadlines are adhered to and the customers requests are fed back to the team.
Each week, a student will be based at the Netbiz offices to get a flavour of what makes a successful agency tick. At the end of the course, the group will present their ideas and reasons behind the direction they have taken the project.
This is a really exciting opportunity for all involved, and we’re happy to be partnering with the College to provide meaningful work placements for the next generation for creative minds.
As part of our plans for the future, MD Ryan Yates is keen to get more involved in the community and this is the first in a number of partnerships that Netbiz is looking to sponsor.
Netbiz and the College go way back!
Newcastle College has played an important role over the years for many of the team here at Netbiz. Back in the day, Marketing Director, Greg Heath, and Lead Designer, Jon Brady, both attended the art college under the careful tutelage of Mike Kelly, who is still working at Newcastle College and helped to initiate the partnership, and we’ve had other fledgeling graphic designers over the years who have all learned their craft at NULC.
“This opportunity arose after Mike approached us about taking on some students from their new HND design course. Finding meaningful placements was proving difficult, and the idea about formulating an official partnership, and providing a more comprehensive experience, grew from there.”
“We’ve put something in place to foster young, creative talent in the area for the long term. We also wanted to highlight that there are some very strong agencies right here in Stoke–on–Trent. Netbiz Group works with businesses locally, nationally and internationally across a myriad of digital marketing activities. Our portfolio includes businesses like Steelite International, Beswicks Legal, Royal Crown Derby, Anthony Hamilton and Moorcroft, to name a few”.
“It’s great to be giving something back as I’ve very fond memories of my time at Newcastle College and remember how much I wanted to experience an agency environment as a budding graphic designer.”
Greg Heath – Marketing Director
“It is my belief that it is our responsibility as educators, to provide our students with meaningful, real-life education. The partnership with Netbiz is the start of us forming continued relationships with our local community and it is an excellent opportunity for our students to extend their skills in the professional world of graphic design.”
Shannon Ball-Mulley, Curriculum Leader: National Diploma Graphics & Game Design at Newcastle College
“This is a fantastic partnership which will provide our students with an invaluable insight into agency life and to experience the delivery of a live brief. It’s also a great chance for our students to learn from and network with other like-minded individuals within their field. We can’t wait to see the results!”
Mike Kelly, Group Head of Creative Arts & Media at Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG)
Working with the Community
As a business, we’re getting more involved with the local community and projects like this allow us to give something back to the area.
It’s also an opportunity to inform student’s studying web design and digital marketing, that there are thriving agencies on their doorstep and they don’t need to look towards larger cities to work on exciting digital projects.
We want to keep the creative talent in the area, and this is the first step towards a long-term partnership that will nurture the future of web design talent, and hopefully inspire them to pursue a career in their hometown.
We’ll be documenting the project throughout, so follow us on Twitter @netbizgroup to see how the project turns out!
