Based in Derby, Toons are one of the areas largest and most respected furniture retailers operating for over 45 years.
As their digital partner, we support Toons in all aspects of online marketing and recently revamped their website to showcase the breadth and quality of not only their wide range of furniture but to emphasise the personal service they pride themselves on.
One area that we needed to focus on was imagery and we decided to start the project with a professional photo shoot to capture each department. As a full-service agency, we provide film, photography and art direction to help elevate the visuals and engagement across all digital communications.
After an initial recce of the store, we storyboarded each location and what we would be shooting; detailing the props needed to stage each shot to ensure a realistic room environment.
Due to the size of the interior, and the panoramic shots required, we had to declutter the background and remove all point-of-sale with minimal disruption to their customers.
The results look fantastic and really help to lift the look and feel of the site whilst providing a clearer insight into the scale of the premises and the furniture available.
The site itself needed a clean, fresh overhaul that focussed on quality and service.
As Toons don’t sell online, we needed to showcase the personal service to encourage users to visit the store and book an appointment with one of their interior specialists.
One unique feature added to the site was the introduction of a ‘style kind’. This area allows the client to curate a room setting for each department and promote matching furniture sets based on seasons, latest ranges and industry trends.
As part of their ongoing Social Media drive, the style guide helps direct people through to one area that users can get at-a-glance interior design tips, similar to an online fashion magazine.
With the scale of the offering, this simple yet innovative feature allows the client to focus on key products and drive sales promotions based on the data we collect on what is popular within the industry.
The project was quite a large undertaking as the product inventory need careful restructuring with all new image assets needing to be collected. The end result, however, has really paid off and we’re delighted with the results which is a testament to the collaboration with the Toons team and their trust in our ideas to deliver a site that resonates with their customers.
The project required a bespoke web design that showcased the breadth of their business and services nationwide.
Having reviewed the technical requirements, we decided on Opencart to benefit from its online catalogue features.
As with any online store, easy access and navigation from mobile was paramount and we worked closely with the client to produce a mobile responsive design.

The new Toons website went live on 12th December 2018, and was the result of many months of planning and data entry.
Netbiz were spot on in their interpretation of our requirements for the new site and the photography in-store was also of excellent standard.
The objective of our website has always been to entice customers to the store, and our latest website offers us the flexibility to generate “Magazine” style pages to promote a “theme” but also retain the ability to have a selection of products to view online before visiting the store.
As the new website had “fresh” content, the Netbiz team worked really hard to ensure this did not affect our Google rankings with the “old” pages not now being available.
